BIO
Sam Boon is an ARIA-nominated composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist with over a decade of experience in the Australian and international music scene. Known for his versatile musicianship and innovative approach, Sam has collaborated with some of the world's most celebrated artists, including Guy Sebastian, TLC, Vance Joy, The Teskey Brothers, Ocean Alley, and The Rubens. As a founding member of the acclaimed Melbourne band Saskwatch, Sam toured extensively, performing at major international festivals such as Glastonbury and Edinburgh Fringe, as well as iconic Australian events like Splendour in the Grass and the Byron Bay Blues & Roots Festival among others.
Sam’s expertise as a saxophonist, combined with his skills in arrangement and orchestration, has led to significant live and studio work. He was invited to arrange and lead the horn section for Guy Sebastian’s first-ever stadium tour and has since played an integral role in major performances, including Vance Joy’s Sydney Opera House forecourt show and appearances with Ocean Alley and The Teskey Brothers.
His talent extends beyond live performances, with his playing, arrangements, and compositions featuring on a wide array of recordings for artists such as Mia Wray, Sinj Clarke, Liam Mcgorry, Ella Thompson, Coda Chroma, Owelu Dreamhouse, Didirri and others. Sam's arranging work on Sinj Clarke’s The Height of Love earned an ARIA nomination for Best Jazz Album in 2023, further cementing his status as a sought-after collaborator.
As a composer and orchestrator, Sam has had works premiered at prestigious venues like the Melbourne Recital Centre and Melbourne Festival. He has also co-composed scores for film and television, including a feature-length documentary on the legendary Australian band The Angels.
In 2020, Sam founded Artists in Music Ensemble, a platform that encourages cross-disciplinary collaboration and the creation of new, innovative works. Two years later, he opened "Sunny South," his own studio in Ballarat, where he continues to record, compose, and collaborate with leading Australian artists. He is also on the instrumental teaching staff at Ballarat Clarendon College, Ballarat High School and works sessionally at Federation University, Arts Academy.
